We Care About Environmental Protection
We're committed to leading the industry in minimizing our impact on the Earth and its resources. We take every step to make sure we are producing great products in the most environmentally conscious ways possible.
We ensure that we only use packaging which meets ASTM D6400 compostable standards - all of our packaging is made from completely compostable PLA material, which is made up of corn starch!
Along with this, we will only purchase FSC certified, unbleached paper, which is used for our customers invoices and paper towels for our facility.
Most municipalities in Ontario are set up to compost our packaging. Be sure to check with your local municipality on how to properly dispose of our meal containers in your area. If you’re in Toronto, place our packaging in the garbage (not the compost) as the city cannot compost it at this time. But the packaging itself will still completely degrade, and not sit idle in a landfill like normal plastic! If you are recycling the packaging please wash first to ensure proper recycling.
BIO RAW is working diligently towards being one of the first facilities in Canada to be Zero Waste certified.
Definition of Zero Waste?
“The conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reduce and recovery of products, packaging, and materials without burning and with no discharges to land, water that threaten the environment or human health.”
To help us reach this goal, we’re working together to assess our waste stream and implement a comprehensive waste management plan to improve on our recycling and recovery rates, while reducing the amount of material going to the landfill.
Together, we can divert over 90% of waste from entering landfills.
We are committed to minimizing the energy used in our kitchen facility which is powered by 100% green electricity.
We also use ENERGY STAR certified products, using programmable timers, taking advantage of natural light, and programmable thermostats. Preserving our resources is a value that resonates with our staff who have participated in conservation training, and actively participate in ensuring that our standards are met.
We use an accredited program to offset the greenhouse gas emissions generated by our activities.
We never use toxic chemicals in our facility or in ANY of our products.
We proudly use cleaner and healthier alternatives to conventional products.
We execute large scale marketing initiatives to better educate our customers on how to properly dispose of packaging and encourage the diversion of waste from landfills.
