BIO RAW’s Zero Waste Initiative

BIO RAW’s Zero Waste Initiative

BIO RAW is working hard towards becoming a certified Zero Waste food manufacturing facility. To help us reach this goal, we are working together to assess our waste stream and implement a comprehensive waste management plan to improve on our recycling and recovery rates, while reducing the amount of material going to the landfill. Together, we can divert over 90% of waste from entering the landfills and incinerators every year.

What is Zero Waste?

“The conservation of all resources by means of responsible production, consumption, reuse, and recovery of products, packaging, and materials without burning and with no discharges to land, water, or air that threaten the environment or human health.” The Zero Waste International Alliance, 2018

BIO RAW is taking all the necessary steps to achieve their Zero Waste certification:

  • Assessing the waste volume the company sends to landfill
  • Developing a robust recycling & composting program
  • Increasing awareness amongst staff of zero waste principles
  • Setting goals to reduce the company’s overall waste impact
  • Encouraging suppliers, distributors and contractors to embrace zero waste principles
  • Committing to continuous improvement annually to divert the company’s waste from landfill

At BIO RAW, we want to redefine what it means to be an environmentally responsible company. We are all about doing Radically Good within our company AND our community. This is largely the focus of our journey to being Zero Waste certified. Zero Waste means using our personal lives and personal consumption habits as an act of rebellion, focusing on purchasing only what we need, reusing what we have and opting for non-disposable options when applicable. The cooperation and commitment of individuals is paramount.

In 2020, with the current initiatives, BIO RAW achieved a waste from landfill diversion rate of 40%. Our staff members are working on diverting other materials such as PPE, Label liners, parchment paper, etc. from going into landfills.

But a Zero Waste strategy goes beyond mere diversions away from landfills through recycling; it's looking for a concrete and progressive reduction in total waste generation. And that, at BIO RAW, is our core objective.

That’s more than good. It's Radically Good.
